Why does Cyclops stop detecting over time?

We have experienced several issues in the past where Cyclops sensitivity is reduced or Cyclops will stop detecting all together.

These issues have been resolved with the latest firmware. Click here to learn how to apply the latest firmware to your Cyclops.

Continuously Powered Cyclops

Issue

Over time the Cyclops sensitivity can be reduced if the power is not being cycled. This is typical in RTU/PLC based systems where the power is applied continuously and not removed during the Close/Fall portion of the cycle.

Resolution

ETC released firmware version 4.0.1 which automatically refreshes the sensitivity of the magnetic sensor periodically.

Magnetized Lubricator

Issue

Using magnetic plunger retrieval tools can cause the lubricator to become magnetized. This strong magnetic field biases the Cyclops reading to the point where the sensor is at the maximum reading and cannot see a change when the plunger arrives.

Resolution

ETC released firmware version 5.0.1 which automatically detects that the sensor is near its maximum reading and automatically adjusts the sensitivity down to allow enough head room to detect an incoming plunger.
